Opinion columnist ejmontini: Arizona's attorney general, and many other political candidates, are speeding downhill on a long, slippery slide to the sleazy bottom of campaign canards.
that was Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich’s Senate campaign, maybe we can take an honest look at Brnovich’s BS claim about ballot counting in Maricopa County. That’s the difference these days between politics and the real world. In the real world, they call a half-truth what it is … a lie.And it particularly does not apply when voters are happy with any half-truths, partial-truths or no-truths that bolster their belief in a debunked conspiracy. Like the one about a stolen election.
And it might have been, had Trump not decided that Brnovich was being “politically correct” for not arresting people for crimes that don’t exist. The attorney general appeared on the podcast of former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, in which he touted his office’s sham investigation into Maricopa County’s election system and said in part, “Just this week we got another letter from lawyer that confirms for the first time – and this is not in the report – that admitted they are using AI to verify signatures.”He got a letter but that’s not exactly what it said.
And his strategy might have worked, too, if Trump hadn’t trashed him for not going far enough, not sinking low enough. And so, in the end, those voters who don’t want to know the truth about the election probably aren’t much interested in knowing the truth about Brnovich, either.
