An Anchorage woman died Sunday afternoon when her plane crashed on a lake near Skwentna, Alaska State Troopers said.
Rescuers called to Whiskey Lake, about 7 miles northwest of Skwentna in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, at 3:51 p.m. found a Cessna 180A fully submerged in the lake, troopers said. The pilot, 67-year-old Janell Rude, did not survive the crash. Troopers said she was the only person on the plane.
Rude’s remains were recovered, and troopers said they will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Representatives of the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have been notified about the crash.This is a developing story. Check back for details.
