This fish is so big that the Texas Parks and Wildlife's Toyota ShareLunker program catch by angler Brodey Davis is pending a new Lake O.H. Ivie record and is one of the top 10 Texas largemouth bass of all time, weighing at 17.06 pounds.

Kyle Brookshear, the Toyota ShareLunker Program Manager, says a fish that size is rare, even by Texas' standards."In Texas, we're kind of spoiled by big fish," Brookshear said."As far as a 17 pounder goes, that's a rare fish, even in Texas. We've only had a handful of those collected prior to this year, and most of those happened decades ago. To have a fish like that come in is pretty substantial.
An angler will collect a fish, or multiple fish, and submit the data about the catch through the Sharelunker mobile app or website. That data will provide the program with a genetic library that allows them to track and evaluate the catch's offspring. Once an angler catches a bass, they loan or donate the catch to the Sharelunker program where they breed and take stock of the offspring in their fishery center in Athens, Texas.
