UPDATE: Another possible environmental situation under investigation at Autauga County school

DEATSVILLE, Ala. - Autauga County Schools is actively investigating another possible environmental situation at Pine Level Elementary School Monday following a similar incident on April 28.

According to a spokesperson, the school system is continuing to work a possible environmental situation at Pine Level Elementary School following approximately 15 new cases of minor eye and skin irritations following an outdoor activity. The school system is confident that what is affecting students is not an identified poison or toxin based on Friday’s testing.

Civil Support Team, a state agency, will conduct additional environmental testing at the school Monday. In a statement regarding the April 28 incident, interim Superintendent Daniel Boyd said the situation caused minor eye and skin irritations for approximately 40 students playing outside. Regional fire and EMA authorities have confirmed there was no presence of airborne poisons or toxins. A spokesperson confirmed that authorities ruled out a fire as a possible source of exposure.

The school system encouraged parents to consult a healthcare provider if any unusual symptoms presented in their children over the weekend. Not reading this story on the WSFA News App? Get news alerts FASTER and FREE in the
