Red Bank Catholic scored a pair of first-half touchdowns and then held off No. 6 Donovan Catholic for its eight-straight victory
Red Bank Catholic Head Coach Michael Lange on the sidelines during the football game between Red Bank Catholic and Toms River North at Toms River North High School in Toms River, NJ on October 20, 2023.As simple as it was — just enough offense, a cup of defense and a dash of booming kicks in the punt game — still produced a delicious result.No.
Last week the offense came up big. Friday night it was the RBC defense. After limiting Donovan to one first down and 28 total yards in the first half, the defense made a game-clinching stop with 3:44 left on a fourth-and-nine at the Casey 22 yard line. RBC took the lead on the first snap. Last week, Stanford-bound Emmanuel Ross sunk Toms River North with two brilliant catches. On Friday night, he staggered Donovan with his legs.
“To be honest, I think we left 28 points on the field in the first half,” Ross added. “We need to do a better job of finishing drives.”“A play like that gets your heart pumping,” Graham said. “It makes the defense just want to make plays for the offense.” RBC converted twice on third down during the drive. Quarterback Frankie Williams, who finished 4-for-13 for 41 yards throwing the ball, made his biggest connection of the game when he found Bohm-Squicciarini in the middle of the field. Bohm-Squicciarini made a fingertip grab for a first down at the Donovan 12. Two plays later, Williams, with an escort leading the way, ran it in.
