A California appeals court on Monday, April 11, 2022, has ruled Johnson & Johnson must pay $302 million in penalties to the state for deceptively marketing pelvic mesh implants for women.
California's Fourth District Court of Appeal issued a ruling Monday that $42 million in penalties assessed for the company’s sales pitches to doctors were unjustified because there was no evidence of what the sales representatives actually said. She rejected the company’s claim that the fine was excessive, saying it amounted to less than 1% of Johnson & Johnson’s net worth of $70.4 billion.
