Usually when I’m talking about developer silence regarding a game I’m interested in and want to return to, we’re discussing CDPR and Cyberpunk 2077. But as we approach mid February here, I’m starting to grow at least a little bit concerned about Marvel’s Avengers.
So far this year, we have gotten a couple new MCU skins for characters, like a Ronin Hawkeye skin, but no content past double XP events and such. NoIt is pretty odd for a live service game to have no path forward for an upcoming year, and essentially two, approaching three months of silence about what may be coming next.
But Marvel’s Avengers? I do wonder if plans could have changed. If Square Enix may have retracted their support for another year of content and they want Crystal Dynamics to move on. We already know that at least part of Crystal Dynamics is now helping Microsoft’s The Initiative build Perfect Dark. I’vethat Crystal Dynamics would be a solid acquisition for Microsoft, as Square Enix has felt like an odd fit for a while.
As much as I want to play with more heroes in Marvel’s Avengers, I do wonder if plans are in flux, and maybe 2022 objectives have shifted. I just don’t know if this game has the playerbase to sustain continued support, and it doesn’t feel great that the only new updates are constantly just MCU microtransaction skins. But those are necessary, given that futureWe have to hear something at some point, and if I hear from CD directly, I’ll let you know.
