'I'll listen': Bears talks with Naperville just the latest example of the team searching for a suburban NFL stadium DaBears ChicagoBears
Naperville officials skeptically viewed the idea of the Chicago Bears' building an NFL stadium in their city -- in 1995. Twenty-eight years later, the Bears are back.
Naperville City Council members mostly have remained tight-lipped about the current discussions, other than social media posts from Ian Holzhauer, who questioned the costs, and Josh McBroom, who advised patience with the process. Regardless, the journey into Naperville is just the latest example of a suburban stadium search by the Bears.1975 In the first of many plays to land a stadium deal in Arlington Heights, Chicago Bears founder George Halas speaks at a luncheon hosted by the village's Chamber of Commerce and says,"I hope and pray that 1977 will find the Bears contending for a title in a new stadium in Arlington Heights.
The Odlum Farm property near Lake Street and Gary Avenue eventually becomes developed with warehouses and other businesses. After the stadium deal doesn't come to fruition, the West Chicago land is transformed decades later into the DuPage Business Center.
