Authorities said Tuesday’s incident is separate from one Friday that damaged four homes.
OAKLAND – Three fires were intentionally set Tuesday evening along Interstate 580 in Oakland, not far from the scene of aNo buildings were damaged or destroyed, said Oakland Fire Battalion Chief James Bowron.
The fires were set around 6 p.m. in a green belt that separates the freeway from homes, between 35th and Coolidge Avenues. Bowron said flares were found at the scene. “Our investigative unit has deemed that these fires were arson based upon the flares being found at each location,” he said. The two-alarm fire is separate from one that broke out Friday along I-580 near 35th Avenue. The flames eventually spread to four homes, displacing at least 10 people.
“They are two separate incidents,” Bowron said. “They just happen to be in close proximity to each other.”Update 1 of 2 from Incident Commander Battalion Chief James Bowron at Maple and Delaware on this evenings incident along WB 580. Watch:
