Austin Energy said it had worked through the night to restore power to 31,585 customers, but the utility still could not give an estimate on when all local outages would be fixed. Around 120,000 customers are still without power.
About half of those outages were customers of Austin’s city-owned utility. Officials in Texas’ tech capital again said Friday that they couldn’t give a clear timeline when all the local outages will be fixed, despite initially promising full restoration by Friday evening. The utility said it had worked through the night to restore power to 31,585 customers.
Following the night of progress, Austin Energy general manager Jackie Sargent said officials were"cautiously optimistic that we have turned a point overnight" with fewer trees falling and thus decreasing the number of repeated outages. Still, the city didn't seem to put much of a dent in the number of outages Friday morning, as the number of customers without power continued to hover around 120,000.
