Are you ready for loan payments to restart? Did you know some of the payments could automatically come out of your account? Here's the latest
Last week, 21 senators and 75 members of the House sent a letter to President Joe Biden asking his administration to push back the May 1 date when federal student loan repayment is scheduled to restart.
"The good news is," Mary Jo Lambert-Terry, a managing partner with private student loan company Yrefy, told the Journal & Courier,"no interest has been added. But in the meantime, some people have been making payments while others had to reallocate to other household expenses. If you were making student loan payments before the COVID-19 pandemic and the implemented pause, those payments could be pulled from your bank account even if you can't afford them.
For the millions of Americans, that money has been absorbed into other expenses since the COVID-19 pandemic, Lambert-Terry said. The moratorium came as the economy was suffering through a shutdown and major job losses.
