Cheryl Johnson, the county's tax assessor collector, and Tyler Drummond, chief of staff for County Judge Mark Henry’s office, said they understand the confusion and anger.“There is a lot of frustration and people want this system reformed because they are fed up with it,” Johnson said.appraises property at 100 percent of fair market value, determined by analyzing property sales.
When protesting property appraisals, Johnson urges homeowners to inform the appraisal district about what is unique about their property, such as whether a home needs costly repairs. Owners are advised to check that their property has all applicable exemptions. If the property is your primary residence, a homestead exemption limits the taxable value to 10 percent more than the previous year's appraised value.Form 50-132, Notice of Protest
Galveston County has adopted a no-new-revenue tax rate for the 12th consecutive year, Drummond noted.
