"Whenever a disease came from Asia, Asians get blamed for it. They face violence and racist policies," he said."That happened with the diseases of smallpox, malaria and leprosy and the 19th century. It happened with the bubonic plague in 1900. It happened with SARS in 2003, most recently." Washington State's Pat Chun, the first Asian American athletic director at a Power Five school, told ABC News that Asian Americans continue to be underrepresented in athletics and"a lot of times you just feel kind of isolated." This energy is reflected in some of the accounts of Asian American athletes who candidly shared their experiences and spoken out in support of the AAPI community.
