Your late-mother was onto something about people in their mid-20’s. They are expected to assume mature behavior — because they are adults. But if they don’t know what to do in a given situation , they tend to avoid it. They can say, “I’m so sorry for your loss,” or even, “I know this is a hard time for you, but I don’t really know what to say.” An acknowledgment will help you to feel less lonely and invisible.
