Sunday’s 6-2 Grapefruit League win against the Nationals was the final tuneup for most...

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Barbers around south Florida had a busy weekend finishing final preparations for the Astros’ World Baseball Classic participants. Luis Garcia made his Grapefruit League start on Sunday sporting braids with blue, yellow and red beads on the end — the same shades on Venezuela’s flag. Héctor Neris and Cristian Javier got braids and dyed them blue before reporting to Team Dominican Republic.

“It’s emotional inside because you know where you come from, how the people think about it, how your family is waiting for it. Myself, this is my second time there at this event, and representing your family and your country, it’s a great emotion to have.” Neris, Bryan Abreu and closer Ryan Pressly all pitched scoreless innings in relief of Garcia, who built his pitch count to 50 and surrendered four hits across three innings of one-run ball. Outfielder Kyle Tucker played all nine innings before departing for Arizona on Monday morning.

All of Houston’s other participating players are in Pool D, which is headquartered in Florida. Most of them will report to the Astros’ facility on Monday morning before making the cross-state drive to their respective training camps.
