Jeremy Peña, hitless for the first six games of the Astros' season, had a breakout game...

Detroit Tigers Miguel Cabrera tips a cowboy hat as he held two bottles of wine as he was honored by the Astros before the start of an MLB baseball game at Minute Maid Park on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 in Houston.Jeremy Peña began Wednesday’s fifth inning starved for a hit, so the Astros shortstop spared no effort in attempting to scrap for whatever morsels he could. Peña’s sprint speed puts him in the 96th percentile of all major-league players.

“I knew he tagged me, but I mean, the review is there for a reason,” Peña said later. “So I'm not gonna get myself out. I'm gonna wait there until they call me out. But I knew he got me.”Peña led off the bottom of the seventh with a double ripped off the left-field wall, a hit with a .160 expected batting average. His first home run of the season, a two-out, two-run shot into the Crawford Boxes, came an inning later and consummated his first multi-hit game of 2023.

“It’s nice to see Peña bounce back,” said center fielder Chas McCormick, who hit 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. “He’s so big for the team, so even if he does struggle we know he’s gonna bounce back.”
