Kyle Tucker's slump grew to 3-for-26 after the Astros' loss to the Mariners on Friday.
SEATTLE — Kyle Tucker delivered a trademark plate appearance against the sort of pitcher he can crush. He did not chase outside the strike zone. He battled with two strikes, fouling off two putaway pitches in full counts to tax Mariners starter Marco Gonzales during his second inning of work. Gonzales needed 18 pitches to procure his first four outs. Tucker saw eight before stepping out of the batter's box to collect himself and rub some dirt between his hands.
. “We’ve only played seven games. I hope frustration doesn’t set in. These guys have been hitting all their lives. They’re going to hit. You want to hit every day, but it’s not like that sometimes.” Tucker and Altuve are 6-for-51 across the season’s first seven games. It is too small of a sample size for any grand conclusions. A two or three-hit night on Saturday could inflate their anemic batting averages back toward normal. Few are panicking as a result, but if the lineup is to solve its early season funk, Tucker and Altuve must rediscover what is missing.
