The Astros are having Michael Brantley temporarily shut down from baseball activities for a few days as he tries to return from shoulder surgery last summer.One day after Astros manager Dusty Baker said outfielder Michael Brantley’s attempt to return from shoulder surgery hadBaker said Tuesday that Brantley was shut down from all baseball activities for three to four days.
“They shut him down for a while to calm that shoulder down,” Baker said. “We’re going to give him three or four days where we don't want him to do anything apart from run and keep his legs sharp. So we had to shut him down.” Brantley had surgery on his right shoulder last August and in December signed a one-year, $12 million deal to remain with the Astros for the 2023 season. He was on the verge of making his season debut in mid-May following a minor-league rehab assignmentBrantley had recently resumed hitting on the field and in the cage prior to this week’s shutdown.
“He’s very discouraged, I'm sure,” Baker said. “But he’s a strong man. We got full faith that he’ll be all right.”
