One Journal Square Before and AfterAfter more than 15 years of promises, lawsuits and false starts, work may finally begin soon on the $821 million 1 Journal Square project.on social media over the weekend that construction will begin at the site before the start of summer. Of course, Jersey City residents have heard this before.

“As far as the development, it’s about time they get going and get that area developed,” said Ward C Councilman Rich Boggiano. “But I hope it’s not for a while, because we’ve got too much construction going on in this area right now. Period.” Bill Armbruster, secretary of the Journal Square Community Association, said he is pleased to hear that the project is expected to commence soon because the vacant lot is an eyesore.

Neither the Port Authority nor the developer could be reached in time for comment on how or if the construction 1 Journal Square’s construction will affect people’s ability to access the nearby PATH stop. Jersey City Mayor, through a spokeswoman, did not return a request for comment, but in a social media post he said “Between the Loew’s , Centre Pompidou, Museum of JC History, HCCC expansion + private development, great things are happening here.”
