Dobie player’s hat trick helps Longhorns win bi-district soccer crown
If two high school soccer teams are going to reserve all of their goals for the second half, it’d be helpful if one of the players was a big, big part to those fireworks over the final 40 minutes.Ronaldo Guzman scored the hat trick, punching home three second-half goals, sparking the Longhorns to the bi-district championship with a 5-2 win over Atascocita at Abshier Stadium Friday night.
Dobie head coach Justo Manrique felt there may have been some butterflies prior to the match to go with other things that led to the halftime stalemate. After a goal by Jordi Garcia with 27:34 remaining in the match, Guzman completed his hat trick by taking advantage of another free kick from the right side.
“Big players step up in big games. He’s a big player for us. He’s a great player, a great teammate. We’re very happy for him. I’d spend an hour giving him compliments,” Manrique said.
