The loss, before a crowd of 17,852, dropped the A’s to 1-7 on the homestand and 7-21 at home, their worst start at the Coliseum since moving from Kansas City in 1968. Starter James Kaprielian allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings, suffering the loss on the night. The first run of the game was a solo shot in the fourth inning by Xander Bogaerts, on the same night he became Boston’s all-time leader in games played at shortstop with 1,094.
“He’s a humble kid from the islands and he just wants to play baseball,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “With time he’s going to realize how important he is for us and for the Red Sox and actually for baseball. This kid is so consistent in everything he does.”“The Coliseum is a big stadium and we don’t always get a huge fan base. That is what it is,” he told MLB.com’s Martín Gallegos. “I think when we go into other ballparks, we kind of feel an everyone vs. us type feeling.
