None of the current tropical storms are expected to threaten the mainland U.S., the National Hurricane Center said Monday.
Three tropical storms have formed in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea with two more disturbances set to grow into tropical depressions or storms in the coming days, forecasters say.National Hurricane CenterA tropical wave with showers and thunderstorms that formed off the Cabo Verde Islands off the African coast is still in its infancy and might bear watching in the coming days, however.
The third tropical storm — Emily — is also over open waters in the Atlantic and similarly won’t be around for long. The storm is 1,165 miles west northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands moving west-northwest at 12 mph. Emily has maximum winds speeds of 40 mph and should weaken to a post-tropical cyclone as soon as Monday evening.
Even as the storm subsides across the coast, flooding and mudslides were expected across the parts of the southwestern U.S.
