Home health agencies and disabled and elderly Texans who opt to be in “consumer-directed services,” in which they hire their own attendants, have reported problems finding help at the current base pay, with no benefits.
“Their financial contribution to the state is quantifiable, but their contribution to the dignity and independent living of those in need of a little help is priceless,” Lubbock GOP Sen. Charles Perry said Wednesday. An increase of $2.49 an hour in the base pay “really doesn’t get us to a competitive wage,” Borel said.
