It’s important for public safety officers to train for real-life situations they will likely encounter on the job. The city of Auburn has approved the construction of a state-of-the-art facility in Auburn, just ten minutes from the public building and Auburn University.
The location is an empty lot just off Highway 280 in Auburn, directly across from where North College Street and Highway 280 meet. A fence has been built, and the first phase of breaking ground and moving dirt is underway.
The most recent project to get approval is a multi-story burn building for the fire department. The building is made to simulate real-life situations. Executive Director of Public Safety Services William Matthew says other components will be featured in the complex, like a training course, drafting put, repel tower, an agility course for police officers and a rescue simulator. The repel tower was approved and ordered earlier in the year. Delivery and construction are expected towards the end of the year. Other props have been ordered but not delivered.
Construction on the entire complex will continue over the next couple of years, but the classroom building, along with the burn building is expected to be complete and operating by early next year.
