Auburn drops to No. 5 in the AP poll after a week of upsets across the country.
The drop comes after an unprecedented Saturday of upsets, as each of the top-six teams in last week’s top-25 lost on the same day — all on the road — for the first time ever. Auburn fell short on the road against then-No. 17 Tennessee, which moved up to No. 13 on Monday, while No. 1 Gonzaga , No. 2 Arizona , then-No. 4 Purdue , then-No. 5 Kansas and then-No. 6 Kentucky all fell victim to conference opponents on the road.
The chaotic week of action saw March Madness arrive in the final week of February, resulting in a shuffling of teams toward the top of this week’s rankings. Gonzaga remained at No. 1 despite its loss to Saint Mary’s, while Arizona held steady at No. 2. Baylor moved up to third following its win at Kansas, and Duke climbed to fourth. That pushed Auburn down two spots, while Kansas, Kentucky, Purdue, Providence and Wisconsin rounded out the top 10.
