More than 100 fires were burning in the states of Queensland and New South Wales on Saturday, with the nation’s weather bureau forecasting little reprieve for firefighters due to dry conditions caused by drought and little rainfall over winter. “We are not out of this yet, the conditions are incredibly dry,” Palaszczuk told journalists on Saturday.
“More than 500 firefighters continue to protect homes [and] work to control fires in difficult conditions,” the RFS said in a statement.
