The National Weather Service issued a beach hazard statement that will be in effect from 3 a.m. on Saturday to 4 p.m. on Sunday, though the NWS noted hazardous conditions could persist until Monday.

Authorities on Saturday announced swelling tides will result in hazardous beach conditions along the coast and in the Bay Area over the weekend.

The NWS reported a long period of ocean swell, sneaker waves and king tides will impact beaches along the coast and in the Bay Area. The organization also reported the king tides – which are the highest astronomical tides of the year – have historically resulted in flooding to low-lying areas around the San Francisco Bay.

"The lowest low tides of the event will be observed during the late afternoon to early evening hours which may lead to trouble for mariners navigating shallow waterways," according to the NWS."In addition, long period northwest swell will enhance sneaker wave and rip current risk." Areas effected by the hazardous beach conditions include San Francisco, Point Reyes, Monterey Bay and the Big Sur coast, according to the NWS.
