There are real issues to be tackled with AVs — but there are also real benefits that can come with them

Autonomous vehicles have become an almost daily part of the news cycle, often with a focus on the tension between this new, exciting innovation and how to properly regulate it. Most recently, Cruise — a prominent AV company — had its license revoked by the California DMV over mounting safety issues.

But I couldn’t help thinking that the bigger conversation around robotaxis is not considering how we can utilize this technology for the good of San Francisco and California. There are real issues to be tackled with autonomous vehicles, and there are also real benefits that come with them.
