Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar shared his perspective on his two recent head injuries, concussion symptoms and why he returned to both games.
Cale Makar described his symptoms as “very, very mild” after thein February.
“I think I would have been comfortable with myself playing if I didn’t take that first initial hit in Pittsburgh,” Makar said. “But you have to be really careful with these things and make sure that you’re handling them right.” In both cases, Makar said he felt good enough to return and felt “comfortable” while he was back on the ice. However, when asked how he felt about the protocol, Makar acknowledged that “obviously, there’s a lot of things you can improve in terms of trying to identify and things like that earlier.” He said it’s the individual’s responsibility as well to consider concussion risk while getting evaluated.
