The Ducks ripped off three goals in the last frame on Thursday at Ball Arena to storm back for a 5-3 win
The cracks started to show in Tuesday’s 3-2 win over the Capitals, when Colorado hung on for the victory despite being on its heels late and outshot by 12 in the final period.
“They dialed it up — they were chasing the game, they’re down 3-2, with a chance to win it on the road,” Bednar said. “We didn’t play with the same urgency, intensity, physicality that we needed to in order to win the hockey game. Bednar doesn’t believe midseason fatigue is the reason for the Avs’ inability to finish over the last two performances. He pointed out Colorado “seemed to have plenty of energy at the end of the game” when the Avs missed on multiple near-equalizers, including a put-back by Evan Rodrigues right in front of the net with 1:28 left that deflected off goalie John Gibson’s leg pad and hit the post.
