The Eagles, ranked No. 4 in this week’s cleveland.com Top 25, are 5-0.
NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — In a clash between two undefeated squads in the Southwestern Conference, Avon’s bold second half on offense overpowered North Ridgeville’s touted defense for a 38-7 win on Friday night.
For the past few seasons Avon head coach Mike Elder has been watching the Rangers build into a bigger program with a big step being taken this season with a 4-0 start to the season. Preaching to his kids just how tough of a night it would be on offense, the Eagles got off to a sluggish start with turnovers and special teams struggles that showed just how tough the Rangers could be.
“North Ridgeville is a team on the rise and everybody better stand up and take notice, I’ve said it for two years now,” Elder said. “They’re doing the work in the offseason, they’re doing the job in the weight room and if you don’t come ready to play them, you’re going to get beat and we did not play a very good first half by any means, but I was proud of our kids in the second half.”
