The Golden State Warriors announced Thursday morning that the Bay Area’s future professional women’s basketball team will play at Chase Center in The City beginning in 2025.
It will be the second professional women’s basketball team to call the Bay Area home. The San Jose Lasers of the now-defunct American Basketball League played parts of three seasons in the South Bay from 1996 to 1998. Joe Lacob, the Warriors’ majority owner, owned the Lasers until the league folded. The Bay Area has had no women’s professional sports teams for more than a decade. FC Gold Pride of the now-defunct Women’s United Soccer Association folded in 2010.
