That cameo came together after a chance call from Mulaney to Byrne. Eventually, one asked the other if he could come over to talk through the musical sketch — and it wasn’t Mulaney doing the asking.
The demo was for a song on the special titled “Pay Attention!,” which was still in its early stages. “It was very-esque,” Mulaney says of getting the demo together for Byrne. He and co-writer Marika Sawyer had the lyrics, but it was up to composer Eli Bolin to get a version of the song ready for a first listen.
“Pay Attention!” centers on one of the 15 child cast members , who can’t get the parents in attendance to watch her performance. If you ever wanted to see the man who sang “Pyscho Killer” dance in an Elsa costume , is also featured in the sketch.
