Insulin is a critical medication in treating and managing diabetes, but its cost has skyrocketed in recent years, nearly doubling from 2012 to 2016. Packages of varying sizes can run upThat makes it difficult for low-income families, or those with certain health insurance plans, to afford. Of Bexar County adults who reported they had diabetes, more than 27 percent earned less than $25,000, according to Metro Health. About 8 percent said they earned more than $50,000.
