A New Jersey woman who went out for a bike ride last fall has filed a lawsuit claiming she was seriously hurt when a man suddenly opened the door of his sedan in front of her.
Morgan crashed into the inside of the driver’s door, suffering injuries to her skull, clavicle, pelvis and tailbone. She was hospitalized for an extended period, according to the suit filed Dec. 22 in Superior Court of Atlantic County. “The defendant opened his car door without looking for nearby pedestrians or cyclists,” the suit says.The complaint does not say whether Morgan was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash or if she was in a bike lane when the car door opened.In an answer filed Jan. 30, the man — who is representing himself — says his car door was already partly open when Morgan claims to have crashed into it. But, the driver claims Morgan swerved and missed his vehicle completely.
