The Biden administration on Tuesday announced a new $325 million package of military aid for Ukraine.

The package includes more than 22 million rounds of ammunition and grenades, rockets, missiles and other munitions "to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs" in an ongoing war with Russia, the Department of Justice said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

It also includes 15 infantry fighting vehicles, spare parts, communications and demolition equipment, funding for training, and more. "This authorization is the Biden Administration's fortieth drawdown of equipment from DoD inventories for Ukraine since August 2021," the release noted. "It includes key capabilities to aid Ukraine's efforts to retake its sovereign territory and support Ukraine's air defenses as they bravely protect Ukraine's soldiers, civilians, and critical infrastructure, as well as artillery, anti-armor systems, and ammunition valued at up to $325 million.

Including the latest aid, the U.S. has committed nearly $40 billion in weapons and other equipment to Ukraine since Russia attacked on Feb. 24, 2022. This latest package will be done under presidential drawdown authority, which allows the Pentagon to quickly take weapons from its own stocks and deliver them to Ukraine, officials said.

“The United States continues to stand with the people of Ukraine, whose enduring courage and solidarity inspires the world,” said Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a statement.
