The Biden administration is granting Temporary Protected Status to Ukrainians present in the U.S. after their country came under attack, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced on Thursday

“In these extraordinary times, we will continue to offer our support and protection to Ukrainian nationals in the United States,” Mr. Mayorkas said. The immigration status offers Ukrainians—including international students, tourists and employees on work visas—a chance to remain legally and work in the U.S. for 18 months. Designations of TPS can be, and almost always are, extended once those 18 months are up.about 30,000people would be eligible. Ukrainians are eligible for the program so long as they were present in the U.S. on or before March 1.
