President Joe Biden will meet with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy at the White House on Wednesday in a show of solidarity between the two countries, the White House said on Sunday.
WASHINGTON -
"This visit will affirm the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s ongoing aggression," a White House statement said. The leaders will also discuss energy security as well as the White House's "backing for President Zelenskiy’s efforts to tackle corruption and implement a reform agenda based on our shared democratic values," the statement added.
U.S. ties with Ukraine were in the spotlight over Zelenskiy’s unwilling involvement in events leading to the first of two impeachment trials for Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump.

The evacuation flow of Americans kept pace even as a new State Department security alert, issued hours before the military action, instructed people to leave the airport area immediately “due to a specific, credible threat.”
