Jim Parsons offers a simple yet believable explanation for why his character Sheldon Cooper was rude and inappropriate on TheBigBangTheory: 'Sheldon frequently said inappropriate things to people because he didn’t know they were inappropriate.'

Jim Parsons explains why Sheldon was so rude on The Big Bang Theory. While the nerd-centric sitcom was initially conceived as an ensemble series, it became clear that Sheldon was its true lead as it went on. The Big Bang Theory's final season proved this after much of season 12 was devoted to his and Amy's bid for the Nobel Prize in Physics. Despite this, there's also no denying that Sheldon was the worst character on the show.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY As The Big Bang Theory's only spin-off, Young Sheldon offers an explanation for some of the socially-inept genius' oddest behaviors. However, the character already had the same tendency to be too frank on the prequel, leaving fans curious how and why he could be so tactless. In a new interview with Them, Parsons offers the simple reason for this particular Sheldon trait.

Sheldon frequently said inappropriate things to people because he didn’t know they were inappropriate. And also the truth, there was nothing to, should be of the cost of truth. Why Sheldon’s The Big Bang Theory Friends Put Up With Him Sheldon has always been very blunt, and most of the time, he doesn't even recognize how his words impact the people around him. Despite this, he maintains a tight friend group on The Big Bang Theory.

Just like many times in the past, the main ensemble stuck by the socially-inept genius during The Big Bang Theory's finale. This was because they knew that most of the time, Sheldon doesn't mean to hurt them; he just isn't well-attuned to other people's emotions. Bernadette sums it up perfectly when she says that Sheldon doesn't know when he's being mean.

For what it's worth, Sheldon's friends putting up with him makes his The Big Bang Theory arc so much better. Over the years, he gradually learned to be more sensitive to how he treats other people. Granted, he could still slip back to his old behavior, but at least he had his friends to call him out on it. This helps Sheldon discern when it's right to be brutally honest and when it's better to keep his opinions to himself.
