The Big Bear ski resorts are open for business even as the local community struggles to support themselves with food and fuel since the roads to the town remain closed. Some residents think the town isn't ready for visitors.
Residents of Big Bear are still digging themselves out from the historic snowfall as the city remains divided as to whether the ski resorts that are usually packed after a snowstorm should be open.
"No one expects this much snow in Big Bear. We'll get this much snow, but it takes a whole season. Not as one shot. One shot was intense," said Mazzo. "I am out of gas. I just ran out of gas two hours ago. I haven't been able to get a gas truck up here for the last two days, three days. So we're out of gas, we're shut down," said Nick Elhaber, an owner of a Big Bear gas station.
"We don't even have the supplies for our locals let alone the people coming up here for vacation," said Clark. "They weren't allowed up to get into their AIRBnB. Nothing available for them."Erin Lewis, who works at a Big Bear bar and grill, said not allowing tourists up the mountain hurts her bottom line.
