The NWS says the system will also keep Sunday's daytime high temperatures about three degrees below average and produce snappy winds on mountain slopes.
San Diego County beaches will be hit by 4 to 6 foot waves with periodic sets to 7 feet on Sunday and Monday, partly as the result of a weak Pacific storm that could produce intermittent showers locally into Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.
The swell, which will arrive from the west-northwest, will peak Sunday evening and will turn choppy as coastal winds pick up. The heaviest surf will slam west-facing beaches in South County and will generate dangerous rip currents. Expect sea surface temperatures in the 56 to 57 degree range. Forecasters say the storm is unlikely to produce more than 0.10 inches of rain in most areas of the county and many areas could remain dry.The system also will put a chill in the air. San Diego’s daytime high will be 63 on Sunday and 64 on Monday. The seasonal high is 67.
Escondido will be 62 on Sunday and 65 on Monday. The Otay Ranch area of Chula Vista will be 62 on Sunday and 64 on Monday. On Sunday, winds out of the west will blow 25 to 35 mph in the San Diego County mountains and deserts, with gusts as high as 55 mph, the weather service said. The gusts could affect driving on Interstate 8, east of Alpine.Motorists can expect wind blown dust Sunday if they travel to Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Palm Desert, La Quinta and Coachella, forecasters added.
