Long, a presiding precinct judge in Cypress and a frequent Republican Party data consultant, continued to cite his figures without responding to the Chronicle analysis showing they were inaccurate. He compared heat maps to police sketches, saying “the result that he comes up with might be a little bit fuzzy, but it definitely points to the perpetrator.”
“I’ve seen the map before here and find it very, very concerning, very convincing,” she said, referring to Long’s map. Emily Eby French, voting rights staff attorney with the Texas Civil Rights Project, told the committee that it shouldn’t assume the problems in 2022 were indicative of an issue with the type of official overseeing the election.
