A billing mishap in Utah has resulted in a woman being charged hundreds of dollars extra for utilities, all due to an incorrect property listing.
Requesting her new home’s parcel listing to be updated from a duplex to a single-family residence has been a headache, she said. Over the years, it’s changed to a Bed and Breakfast, a Duplex, and most recently, a Group Home. Those mixed uses reflect how Salt Lake City has charged the Petersen for their use of the city’s utilities.
According to Petersen, the City’s Utilities Department said they would have to wait until that time to stop overcharging on the utility bill, too. "They did not offer to decrease the bills, they did not refund any of the amount I've been overcharged, they told me they probably could not do that,” she said.
