Originally settled in the 1800s, the Mt. Solitude Ranch has been owned by the Thomson family for five generations. It is located on Bandera Highway, approximately 9.5 miles northwest of Scenic Loop Road. Some of the properties featured in the Forbes article are in Old West states like Oregon and Nevada, but the trend is being felt throughout Texas with other listed ranches near Big Bend and Turkey Track Ranch in the Panhandle.
