Thanks to its high performance at the box office, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has helped push Disney's collective 2022 box office earnings past $3 billion. The highly-anticipated sequel to 2018's Black Panther sees major loss due to the death of T'Challa while also presenting a conflict between Wakanda and the underwater kingdom of Talokan, led by Namor. The film pays tribute to T'Challa actor Chadwick Boseman, who tragically died from cancer in 2020.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY According to Deadline, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's booming box office performance has helped Disney to earn over $3 billion in box office revenue during 2022. The achievement marks the 14th time Disney has made over $3 billion at the box office in one year, in no small part due to Wakanda Forever's climbing $381 million global earnings. This includes $205 million domestically, making the superhero film the biggest November opening of all time.
Other top earners for Disney in 2022 include Death on the Nile, an adaptation of Agatha Christie's book headed by 20th Century Studios, which earned $138 million globally. Another top earner this year was Lightyear, which - despite underperforming at the box office, it still made $227 million globally by the time its theatrical release ended.
What Disney Movies Will Perform Well In 2023? With Disney slated to release Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and The Marvels in 2023, the MCU seems like it will be another big box office performer that can help boost Disney's earnings next year. Familiar faces may also perform well at the box office next year, with The Little Mermaid and Indiana Jones 5 paving the way for the theatrical returns of beloved pop culture characters.
