Even if production volume is scaled back, investors argue that media companies' drive for efficiency could mitigate that dip by favoring studio stages over costlier on-location shoots. They're also counting on the fact that real estate and equipment represent a small share of a production's budget, which bodes well for the sector should the industry hit a content slowdown.

In 2021 the two announced plans to invest $170 million to $190 million to develop a 240,000-sq.-ft. production studio on the edge of LA, Sunset Glenoaks Studios. This year, they plan to start construction on a 21-sound stage studio production complex outside London, Sunset Waltham Cross Studios. Bain and Bardas are focusing on creating highly designed studio campuses that cater to all of a production's needs, with a variety of workspaces and amenities.
In 2022 TPG added Germany's Studio Babelsberg, known for local German productions and features like"Inglorious Basterds."
