Roslovic nets two more goals, Blue Jackets welcome two more rookies into the NHL with 5-1 win over Canadiens
Nick Blankenburg notches first NHL point, Kent Johnson joins him in playing first professional game on the same night David Savard and Josh Anderson return to Columbus.Youth was served, a pair of familiar faces were back in town and Jack Roslovic kept on scoring goals for the Blue Jackets on Wednesday night at Nationwide Arena.
Blankenburg even notched his first NHL point with an assist on a goal by fellow rookie Cole Sillinger. Other notable occurrences for the Blue Jackets included Zach Werenski playing his 400th game, Elvis Merzlikins allowing one goal on his 28th birthday and Columbus staving off a pending playoff elimination for at least one more game.
Roslovic is definitely feeling it after totaling five goals and six points in the past two games. His second one in this game also could’ve been his third. It was scored not long after a previous Roslovic rush forced Montembeault to make a nice save at the right post. Roslovic’s scoring line is now 17 goals, 21 assists and 38 points, which are career-highs in goals and points. He’s also one assist away from tying his high mark in that category with eight more games to play.It’s not often you see a pair of rookies taking a couple of laps by themselves to start pregame warmup while the rest of the team waits in the tunnel.
“I thought they did just fine,” Larsen said. “For your first NHL game, there’s a lot going on in your head. I haven’t seen them a lot. I heard a lot about ‘Johnny’ and his game. He worked tonight. He was trying to make plays. I think the game is a little faster here … and he’s going to be fine. I think just getting used to handling the puck and things come at you a little bit quicker, but he did good. Solid.
