After a nervy third period for the Jackets, defenseman Nick Blankenburg hit the empty net from 200 feet away with 1:39 left to play to ice the win. Jenner added a second empty-netter with just 17.9 left.— The first few minutes of the game were tentative and felt like the Jackets could easily slide down the same path of the previous five games.
Midway through the period, a scrum developed in front of goaltender Joonas Korpisalo after he made a save. Blankenburg cross-checked Scott Laughton and then tangled with Joel Farabee when Farabee took issue with Blankenburg's hit. Throughout the night, whenever Flyers players gathered in the Jackets' crease, there was a palpable increase in the Jackets defending their goalie.
