Bob Odenkirk reflects on BetterCallSaul coming to an end, explaining he can't believe the BreakingBad spinoff is finally over. 'I really feel like when I watch the finale is when it will hit me.'

Bob Odenkirk reflects on Better Call Saul coming to an end, saying it"hasn't hit" him yet that the Breaking Bad prequel is wrapping up. Odenkirk first brought the titular character to life in Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould's acclaimed crime drama series as lawyer Saul Goodman who works with the criminal underworld in New Mexico to defend various clients, including meth cooks Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.

Created by Gilligan and Gould, Better Call Saul explores the character's origins as Jimmy McGill, a former scam artist struggling to make a name for himself in the world of law and get out from under his brother's shadow. With obstacles presented at every corner, Jimmy slowly but surely moves away from his goals of being a respectable lawyer to the flamboyant defense attorney audiences first fell in love with in Breaking Bad.

"[It sunk in Saul was ending] a few weeks ago. It hasn't hit me yet. I have to watch the end. I really feel like when I watch the finale is when it will hit me.

As Odenkirk indicates, Better Call Saul was put in the works long before its premiere in 2015, with Gilligan and Gould purposely writing the eponymous season 2 episode of the mothership series in the hopes of spinning off its title character to his own show. Better Call Saul ultimately hit the screens within two years after Breaking Bad came to a close, giving Odenkirk little downtime between projects and effectively keeping him squarely in the character's shoes for well over a decade.

Outside of serving as the closing chapter for the series, and potentially the character, Better Call Saul season 6 was a rollercoaster of an experience for Odenkirk. Production on the final season already saw hurdles in kicking off due to the ongoing pandemic, though was almost put into a drastic position when Odenkirk suffered a heart attack on set, but the star would fully recover just over a month afterwards and return to bringing the show to a close.
