A body was discovered in a canal near 2535 W. 500 South last night, Salt Lake police said.
A community member spotted the body at about 9 p.m. and notified authorities. Salt Lake Fire and police responded to the scene along with the medical examiner, Salt Lake Police spokesman Brent Weisberg said. Firefighters removed the body from the canal and turned it over to the medical examiner to confirm the cause of death, manner of death and the identity of the individual.
There are no obvious signs of suspicious trauma. The medical examiner will work to confirm the cause of death and to confirm the person's identity, Weisberg said.
